How much can you fit into a short stay in Orlando?
Our Managing Director Paula put this to the test as she spent 5 exhilarating days on a jam-packed Orlando adventure, thanks to Gold Medal Travel and Aer Lingus. Now, believe it or not, Paula has never been to Florida. We know, we know... Outrageous, right?! But she has never actually been a huge fan of theme parks and roller coasters, so you can imagine how she was feeling going into this trip - very excited but also a little apprehensive. Much to her surprise, her mind has been completely changed. The magical lands of Walt Disney World and Universal Studios have transformed her into a certified thrill-seeker so keep reading if you want to know just how much she got up to in such a short visit
Day 1 - Arrival
Orlando is a long way to go for a quick break (at least 7 hours flight time), so (as this was a VIP Trip) Paula was treated to experiences that would ensure she arrived in Orlando refreshed, relaxed and ready for adventure. Following a smooth check-in at Manchester airport, she whiled away her time at the airport in the Lounge, enjoying a couple of pre-flight drinks and snacks. Then it was boarding time, and Paula found herself turning left where she was then ensconced in the indulgence of business class for the duration of the flight.
Paula said;
The cabin crew were exceptionally friendly and attentive, serving amazing food and drinks. I especially loved the Margaritas! Such an incredible experience, comfy flat bed and great choice of movies.
What a way to start her trip!

The Lowes Portofino Bay Hotel (just a short boat ride from the parks) was Paula’s first hotel of the trip - located within the Universal Studios resort. That evening Paula enjoyed a scrumptious pasta arrabiata in the beautiful Mama Dellas Resorante, an Italian restaurant where everything is made from scratch and absolutely delicious!
Day 2 - Universal's Epic Universe
Breakfast was served in the private dining room of Trattoria al Forno Restaurant. Fully fuelled for the day ahead, Paula took a trip that is completely enviable for any theme park lovers. She had the privilege of an exclusive tour of the new park for 2025, Universal's Epic Universe, opening to the public May 2025. Getting a private insight into the immense collaboration between departments and planning, Paula was seriously impressed, stating:
Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos but, be assured, it’s going to be very special!
The afternoon was filled with flips, falls and film icons as she rode Universal's famous roller coasters. But the highlight of this day was taking part in the vibrant and flamboyant Mardi Gras parade. The procession winds through Universal Studios, featuring live music, an elaborate rainbow of lights, and beautiful beads tossed from floats. These floats are designed and crafted in New Orleans, ensuring an authentic Carnival experience. Dressed to the nines in pink and glitter, Paula embraced the party spirit that comes with this joyous occasion.
Day 3 - Universal Studios
Just a short walk from the hotel was at the Hard Rock hotel, and it was there that Paula was greeted with an incomparable breakfast feast. From hashbrowns and grit to traditional eggs and bacon, you can get it all here.
The day was spent exploring Universal Studios and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. In these parks you can find scenery, rides and food that fully immerse you into all of your favourite films and tv shows such as family favourites like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Paula’s recommendation?
My favourite was Harry Potter's Hagrid’s ride, and with VIP access there was no queuing. I took the less scary option of sitting in the side car, exhilarating and one I hope to revisit.
It’s an immersive park creating unforgettable moments. You can go from drinking an ice cold Butterbeer to saying ‘Bello’ to some passing Minions on the hunt for bananas. Crazy, but wonderful!

In the evening, Paula moved her fantasy festivities to Walt Disney World Orlando, staying at the Swan and Dolphin hotel. Disney leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the level of detail they use to fully immerse you into their Mickey Mouse empire. Spending the evening in Epcot, just a 15 minute walk from the hotel, Paula continued to slowly get swayed towards the joy and magic that these theme parks bring. She had yet another enviable experience as she enjoyed a private dining overlooking a spectacular fireworks display.
Day 4 - Walt Disney World
Today’s first stop? Animal Kingdom! This firm family favourite showcases nature's finest while giving you the thrill of riding hair-raising roller coasters. From the adrenaline pumping Expedition Everest to the transportive Avatar Flight of Passage, you can really get your heart racing. Home to its own safari, you can see majestic elephants, towering giraffes and Florida’s infamous crocodiles. You’ll almost forget you’re in a theme park!
Then onto Disney’s Hollywood Studios, observing the glitz and glam of Hollywood. In this park you get to ride some of Disney's most loved attractions; Slinky Dog Dash, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith to name a few.
Finally, Paula experienced the iconic moment for any first time Disney-goer, standing in the heart of the park in all of its royal blue and pink glory. She entered Magic Kingdom and was greeted by its renowned castle for the first time, something everyone who has been to Walt Disney World knows the indescribable feeling of. Munching on scrumptious caramel popcorn, she enjoyed the glorious character parade, where you can see all of your favourite Disney icons.

In the evening, Paula was treated to a fine dining experience like no other. Hosted by the Director of Sales in the Dolphin Hotel at Shula’s Steak House, she enjoyed a delectable meal (steak obviously!) as she gained some valuable insights into the impeccable service that comes with staying at this hotel. If you wanted to treat yourself to a cheeky drink Paula remarked,
They had the most lovely wines and the cocktails were simply the best!
Day 5 - Retail Therapy & Return Home
Continuing the jam-packed nature of this trip, Paula’s last day was spent shopping in the mall and exploring the aisles of Walmart. Finally, Paula was back on her Aer Lingus flight and reminiscing on an unforgettable few days..
I feel very lucky to have been invited with great people to a vibrant destination, I will never forget and will definitely revisit with my family
Time is what you make of it, and you can certainly do a lot if you put your mind to it.
After seven theme park experiences in 72 hours (walking about 45 miles), Paula’s top tip?
