Packing Tips For An Escorted Tour
Jenny, our Marketing Executive, recently ventured to Sri Lanka on an escorted tour! Due to this being her first ever escorted tour, she does admit that she didn’t get her packing quite right. However, after several conversations with fellow travellers and learning from her mistakes, she has developed the perfect packing list for those heading on an escorted tour.
1. Take a look at your itinerary as you pack
It's a good idea to have a look at your itinerary as pack so you know what ypes of activities you will be doing and whether you require any specific clothing items. For example, if you are visiting a temple, you'll need to cover your knees and shoulders. Perhaps you are going on safari, in that case you will need neutral clothing.
2. Use packing cubes
These are great to organise each individual outfit day-by-day and it ensures you aren't rummaging through your entire case trying to find bits and bobs when you have an early start.
3. Check the weather
It's important to research the weather at your destination and other spots you might be going to and pack accordingly. Layers are often a good idea as they allow you to adjust your clothing to sudden changes in weather conditions.
"I made the mistake of assuming that all locations in Sri Lanka would be hot. However, we went up into the hills where 30°C quickly turned into 16°C and I wish I had taken a cardigan!"
4. Travel Documents
Organise your passport, travel insurance, visa and other important documents into an easily accessible, secure pouch. This is really handy when going through security checks and to keep everything in one place.
"I would recommend printing out your itinerary too. It was great to have it to hand to check where we were going each day and what I needeed to wear."
5. Electronics Hack
Take an extension lead in your suitcase! This is great when you are getting ready as you can plug in the extension lead to an adapter and plug your charger, hairdryer and anything else into the extension lead all at the same time.
A portable charger is great too. Days are often long on touring holidays so being able to charge up your devices throughout the day ensures you don't miss any photo opportunities.
6. Downtime Entertainment
On a touring holiday, you may spend a fair bit of time on the coach to get you from one destination to the other. Whilst the scenery is beautiful, you may want to bring a form of entertainment, such as a book, e-reader or pack of cards, to keep you occupied.
Remember that the key to successful packing for touring holidays is to be practical, versatile, and minimalistic. You want to be prepared for various situations without carrying unnecessary items that will weigh you down.
